Membership Card Revoked...

Why did I have so many children? Brutal.
It looks like this weekend will be a juggling act and next is in jeopardy due to basketball watching and coaching. I'll be rethinking my strategy for the 2010 season. I just hope my membership privileges aren't revoked... Maybe some chowdah, beans and peanut butter cookies will influence the judges.

Fear not, fellow Shedians!

I will be available to help tidy up access to the Shed while Andy is bolstering his coffers and my pie is cooking. We will miss those who cannot make it. As I have been made aware of those noble excuses of family, volunteerage, plowage (can't argue with making money!), and parading (I always love a parade!), as your King, I hereby grant pardon to those with such noble causes. Of course, it does mean less food to partake for those of us who do show up, however, on the flip side, it also means more pie. Mmmmmm, pie! It's good to be King! So, until our next Shed event, I wish you all well and may you all enjoy good tidings from The King. Adieu . . . .

Basketball, Parade, Wife's Party

I too will not be able to attend the Squish the Fish bash. I wil be coaching
a 4-5 Grade Basketball game, we have the parade and the wife has her work x-mas party. I got the kids .

Interference Call

I regret to inform you that I will be in Quabbin for the 5th grade travel team basketball game. While it's possible that I could stop in for the last 10-15 minutes of the Pats, it's unlikely. It is what it is. Go Tigers.

SHED-26 STATUS

FELLA'S, AS THE LOCAL 22 HEAD DOWN SOUTH TO MIAMI TO TAKE ON THE DOLPHINS, WE SHEDIAN'S ARE DEALING WITH A NOR'EASTER. ALSO IN THE FORECAST IS THE MAYNARD X-MAS PARADE. THE SHED WILL BE OPEN, I REPEAT , THE SHED 26 SPORTS COMPLEX AND BINGO PARLOR FOR THE STARS WILL BE OPEN. AS PRESIDENT OF THE SHED I WILL SEE TO THE COMFORT OF ITS PATRONS. HOWEVER, I MAY BE PLOWING IN THE A.M. AND LATER WILL BE ATTENDING THE PARADE. IT IS WHAT IT IS. I BELIEVE THE GAME WAS SCHEDULED ORIGINALLY FOR 8 P.M. DOESN'T THE NFL REALIZE HOW THIS EFFECTS THE SHED? PLEASE POST ALL QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS . I'M OUT!

Interesting things from around the NFL

nfl rumors

In the NFL stats, there should be a notation next to Wes Welker’s league-high 79 receptions that reflects he missed two games, which adds more impressive context to the production!

One Patriots stat that jumps off the page: They own a 34:26-25:34 time of possession advantage over their opponents this season, best in the NFL.

Top 5 blitzing teams in the NFL
Jets -- 57.9
Saints -- 49.0
Eagles -- 46.3
Steelers -- 45.6
Bears -- 44.1

Peter King of NBC suggests that the Indianapolis Colts are a "very, very dark horse" to secure Charlie Weis' services in 2010.

Such a move presumably would entail a retirement of retired offensive coordinator Tom Moore from his role as consultant. And it would potentially place a thick layer of frost on Weis' relationship with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

During the first half of todays game vs. the chiefs, running back LaDanian Tomlinson leapfrogged Marcus Allen and Edgerrin James to take over No. 10 on the all-time rushing list.

Jets game Balls

Recapping Jets game-ball winners
November, 25, 2009

By Mike Reiss

Although the Patriots have put last Sunday's win over the Jets in the rear-view mirror and are now focused solely on the Saints, a look back at the game-ball winners:

Tully Banta-Cain -- In just 26 snaps, outside linebacker/defensive end plays through injury and totals five tackles (one for a loss), two sacks and a forced fumble.

Leigh Bodden -- Cornerback ties a Patriots record with three interceptions.

Mark LeVoir -- Offensive tackle comes off the bench in a pinch and delivers a crushing block on a receiver screen that highlights the physical edge with which the Patriots played.

Ty Warren -- Defensive end ties for the team high with six tackles, continuing to do the dirty work that is easy to overlook.

Wes Welker -- Receiver notches career highs with 15 receptions and 192 yards.

Maynard High Playoff on Tuesday

The Maynard High School Tigers football team will make their first appearance in the playoffs since 1987 on Tuesday at Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham at 5:15pm,
in a rematch against the Clinton Gaels. The Tigers enter the contest as the #8 seed vs the #1 Gaels,Clinton recently defeated Maynard on Thanksgiving 28-7. Maynard's last appearance in the playoffs was 35-0 loss to the Milford Scarlet-Hawks in the
the Div 1 Superbowl in 1987 .

Oakmont is 43 minute drive to East ................. Nice job by the MIAA in keeping the Tigers and Gaels close to home .

good info on patriots vs saints

10 things to know about Saints
November, 25, 2009

By Mike Reiss

1. They are 10-0. Home games have come against the Lions, Jets, Giants, Falcons and Panthers. Road games have been played against the Eagles, Bills, Dolphins, Rams and Buccaneers.

2. Head coach Sean Payton is in his fourth year, and he calls the offensive plays. He previously coached on Bill Parcells’ staff in Dallas after stints with the Giants (1999-2002) and Eagles (1997-98).

3. Pete Carmichael Jr., who grew up in Medway, Mass. and graduated from Boston College, is the offensive coordinator. Gregg Williams is the defensive coordinator.

4. They have a league-high 29 takeaways, led by safety Darren Sharper’s seven interceptions.

5. On the flip side, they have lost 10 fumbles, with only one team losing more (Oakland, 12).

6. Quarterback Drew Brees is having an MVP-worthy season: 218 of 320 for 2,746 yards, with 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. His 68 percent completion rate would set a career high.

7. Pierre Thomas (105 carries, 584 yards), Mike Bell (115 carries, 514 yards) and Reggie Bush (55 carries, 277 yards) spearhead an impressive three-pronged running attack.

8. Marques Colston is the leading receiver (44 catches, 687 yards, 6 TDs), followed by tight end Jeremy Shockey (39 catches, 461 yards, 3 TDs).

9. Categories in which they lead the NFL include: Points per game (36.9), total yards per game (420.5), total passing yards per game (266.2), percentage of opponents passes intercepted (20 INTs).

10. Injuries at cornerback are a primary concern, as starters Jabari Greer (groin) and Tracy Porter (knee) did not play last Sunday against Tampa, and top reserve Randall Gay left the game with what he said was a hamstring injury. They signed veteran cornerbacks Chris McAlister and Mike McKenzie over the last two weeks.

Good info

Stanback, Arrington gain some security

By Mike Reiss

In promoting practice squad players Isaiah Stanback and Kyle Arrington to the active roster over the last two weeks, the Patriots did not just fill spots on their current 53-man roster. They have also ensured that both players will be with the team in 2010.

Both Stanback and Arrington inked two-year contracts.

Stanback's deal includes a $25,000 signing bonus and has base salaries of $460,000 in 2009 and $560,000 in 2010. There is also a 2010 offseason roster bonus of $25,000. That is a generous contract for a player promoted from the practice squad and might reflect how the Patriots appreciated Stanback's contributions as their third quarterback while he was on the practice squad. While on the practice squad, Stanback traveled with the team as if he was on the active roster and helped with sideline management.

Arrington's deal does not include a signing bonus. It has base salaries of $310,000 in 2009 and $395,000 in 2010. There is a 2010 offseason workout bonus of $57,000, in addition to a $50,000 roster bonus in 2010. Like Stanback's deal, this is a generous contract for a player promoted from the practice squad. One factor might have been the Cleveland Browns' interest in Arrington, as they were attempting to sign him to their active roster.

Practice squad players become free agents after the season. While Stanback and Arrington could have re-signed with the Patriots, the team would have faced competition for their services.

WILDCAT?

THE MIAMI DOLPHINS COME INTO THE RAZOR THIS SUNDAY, BUT ALL I'M HEARING ABOUT IS THE WILDCAT. DID SOMEBODY CHANGE THEIR NAME? NEW ORLEANS SHUT THE WILDCAT DOWN BY BLITZING OFF THE EDGE; THE JETS ATTACHED IT IN SIMILAR FASHION, NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PATS WILL DO. I SAY; IF SOMETHING AIN'T BROKE THEN DON'T FIX IT. BELICHIC , I'M SURE WATCHED BOTH THOSE GAMES AND IS READY FOR IT THIS TIME AROUND. I LIKE THE PATS BIG THIS WEEK. MIAMI ALSO HAS TWO ROOKIE CORNERS GOING UP AGAINST MOSS AND WELCHER. That's right fellow Shedians! Our New England 22 are puttin' it on the line at home this Sunday! So what will be on the menu this week with the new rules? Who will bring something someone brought last week? Will Buddy bring American Chop Suey? Will Bob bring sandwiches better than Jason's? It's a GIFT!

The Bills gave the Pat's a gift tonight! The Pat's finished well, taking advantage of two mistakes made on the kickoff return by the Bills: first, taking the ball out of the end zone, and second, fighting to stay up when being tackled to allow the strip.

It was a frustrating outing for the Men in Red, but, they hung in and, as always, didn't give up!

Brady eventually looked like his old self; Welker got into his groove; Moss worked hard on the crossing and out routes; and Ben Watson stepped up and made the day!

The Bills played pretty well, keeping the Pats frustrated; but, the Pat's overcame their poor play in the first half to prevail in the end.

A great ending, but, let's hope every game is a lot less stressful than tonight's!

Next week: Pats at J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! JETS! Favre-less but, Sanchez supplied. Should be a good one!

YEAH MONDAY!!!

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE PATRIOTS TONIGHT IN THERE THROWBACKS!!
pATRIOTS BLOG

OTHER THAN THE THROW BACK WE WILL ALSO GET TO SEE WHO THE REAL #81 IS IN THE AFC EAST. MY MONEY IS ON MR. MOSS EVEN THOUGH T.O. IS NO SLOUCH AND WHEN HIS MIND IS RIGHT IS A DYNAMIC WR.

Monday Night Football - Cocoaboy

Cocoaboy has been invited again to assist Bill in the opener against the Buffalo Bills down at the Razor. Sorry, but when Bill B calls I have to assist, it's good for the Shed 26, sideline correspondent. I'll call in with updates from the field .

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

In Bill we Trust . . .

Who else wouldn't be surprised that Bill Belichick has a statistic telling him that 6'-6" 310 lb 29 year old linemen become 50% more injury prone after years of health, even in their final year of their contract, deminishing their effectiveness? Hmmm . . .

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Unending Gratitude to Richard Seymour!

Thank you, Mr. Seymour! We will forever be indebted to your contributions to the Patriot's! Business is business, but, more importantly, as a man, you will always be a standout in the lives of many in the New England community! We wish you all the best!

UFC 102: pre fight picks

Hello Shed26 Fight Night Fans....it's your friendly correspondent back to ground and pound some truth before tonight's event.

A little news for you first.. Massachusetts has finally approved MMA in the state!! I just heard Dana white say he is in negotiations with both the TB Bank Garden and FENWAY Park for the first boston event in 2010!!!

UFC 102...really nice card, but not shed worthy.

Here's how it should break down:

Main Event

Randy Couture (220) vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (231)
This would have been a fantastic fight 2 years ago when these two incredible champs were at the top of the UFC and Pride respectively...but today...not so much...should be a great fight though...

Pick: Shed26 favorite Randy "the natural" Couture" ground and pounds his way to a decision....Big Nog is almost impossible to knock out and is the best BJJ Big man in the world.....I think he's 4 holes into the back nine....and the natural should have no problem..Greko-and-Pounding him for 3 rounds... One caveat...if Randy tries to stand and trade with Big Nog, it would be a huge mistake.. even though Nog made Frank Mir look like Mohammad Ali a few months ago...he still has an iron chin and can slug with anyone....Randy has shown that he can be knocked out if he gets too fancy with the hands.....SHOOT THE DOUBLE RANDY!!!

Keith Jardine (205) vs Thiago Silva (205)

Pick: Tiago Silva is tough as nails and has serious power, but, in a close fight, you always go with the Dean of Mean....Wins by KO in the 2nd round...Keep your chin down and your hands up Jardine...Tiago gets' frustrated with all the Leg kicks he takes...lunges at the dean....and get's put to sleep with a looping overhand right...signature Dean of Mean!!

Nate Marquardt (185) vs Demian Maia (185)

Pick: this is the best fight on the card...Nate is overall one of the best 185'ers in the world...good at everything...former king of Pancreas...and only the spider keeps him from wearing a belt.....Damian Maia is one dimensional....but that dimension (BJJ) is the best in the world...he is unstoppable on the ground...his opponents go to sleep faster than Frank after the first under card fight...If Nate can keep it standing...he'll win...but he can't keep it standing... Maia is too good and is the only real threat to the Spider at 185.. Maia wins by submission in the second round.

Brandon Vera (205) vs Krzysztof Soszynski (205)
Pick: We have to go with the Polish experiment (Soszynski) by tko in the 3rd round... Vera has great talent but hasn't looked or fought like himself since coming down from heavyweight...he is much better suited fighting larger, slower guys and with 205'ers he ends up clinching like bone crusher smith for three rounds. The polish experiment goes for his trademark kimora from half guard...then transitions to the mount and brings the elbows until the ref calls it.

Chris Leben (185) vs Jake Rosholt (185)

Pick: great fight again...another Shed26 favorite Chris Leben...always brings it...he's the Arturo Gatti of MMA...Rosholt is a former NCAA wrestling champ and people have high hopes for him...the problem is that I haven't seen his wrestling translate well in MMA and his standing up way behind the curve. Unless he channels Mickey Ward for Three Rounds....Leben is going to highlight reel him in the First. If the UFC wanted to prop up Rosholt...putting him against Leben is a huge mistake...

Ed Herman (185.5) vs Aaron Simpson (185)
Pick: Tough pick here....Ed "Short Fuse" Herman is a slight favorite...and can wrestle...but Simpson is no joke...NCAA D1 wrestler... Herman only seems to loose to submission guys so I think he'll GNP Simpson for a decision victory.

Gabriel Gonzaga (259) vs Chris Tuchscherer (258)

Pick: Let's go with Gonzaga...local guy...who is a top 10 heavyweight...has great BJJ and huge knockout power in the his hand and feet (kro cop)...never heard of the other guy...

Justin McCully (238) vs Mike Russow (260)

Pick: Justin McCully seems to have been hand picked to loose to Mike Rossow...Russow is a police officer with a good story line...but McCully it tough, although small for a heavyweight...and since this is Russow's first time in the octagon.. I think the big lights will get to Russow and he'll be TKO'd in the first round.

Tim Hague (263.5) vs Todd Duffee (251)

Pick: this is a pick'em...bathroom break fight...let's go with heavier guy....Hague by TKO in the second.

Nick Catone (185.5) vs Mark Munoz (185.5)

Pick: Again..here is another Former NCAA wrestling champ that has had trouble transitioning his wrestling effectively into MAA....after getting KO'd by Shed favorite Matt the hammer Hammill...Munoz drops down to 185...Catone seems to have been hand picked to loose...but I like his skills and think he puts Munos to sleep in the 3rd round.

Marcus Aurelio (156) vs Evan Dunham (155)

Pick: Aurelio in the first by submission...no banter for this one

That's all fight fans..until next time...this has been your friendly Shed26 Fight night Correspondent..

Pre(?)season fare . . .

As our esteemed leader stated the fare was well above previous preseason ratings! Cudos to Big Bob for the baked/broiled brown sugar coated bacon wraped mini-dogs! Let me just express my fear that they go the way of the Man Cakes, rarely seen, though longed for every game. Yes, that's right fans, Big Bob's Bacon Wraped Puppies were that good! Unfortunatley, there are no Macintosh apples available this late(?)/early(?) in the season. So, chocolate cake had to suffice. This week could yeild something else altogether. We'll have to see. But, with low turn out, excessive portions often make up for the lack of tradition. But, with the season yet to begin, one, well, OK, I, can only dream of a week with Big Bob's Bacon Wrapped Puppies, followed by Man Cakes, Buddy's Golabkis, Kevin's Beans, Jason's mother-in-law's meat pie, Cocoaboy's hot chocolate, Wayne's always good dish du jour, and, yes, I'll say it . . . apple pie. Life doesn't get any better. Kevin is always right, "This is the best place EVER!!"

P.S. HOLY CRAP! I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT ANDY'S CALZONES! I gotta stop blogging after midnight!

ITS ONLY JUST BEGUN

THE NFL PRESEASON KICKED OFF IN TOP FORM LAST NIGHT AT THE SHED 26 SPORTS COMPLEX. THREE CHARTER MEMBERS WERE THERE CHEERING FOR THE LOCAL 22. THE MENU, HOWEVER, WAS NOT PRESEASON IN FORM. THE MENU COULD HAVE STOOD UP TO OPENING DAY- MINI HOT DOGS WRAPPED IN BACON. OH YA I SAID WRAPPED IN BACON!, HONEY CHICKEN DRUMMIES, CHICKEN AND PEPPERONI PARM CALZONE, AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF..... WAIT FOR IT.....CHOCOLATE CAKE. I MUST ADMIT, I AM IN PRESEASON FORM, STRUGGLING TO KEEP MY EYES OPEN IN THE 4TH QUARTER. ALL IN ALL I MUST SAY THE SHED IS BACK.

Limo Service . . .

Well, Ok, it's a run down dirty van, but, it get's me where I need to go!

Anyways, I'll be driving through Maynard between 6:30 & 7:00, so, if a ride is needed, it can be had!

Just let me know!

Game Time Decision

Childcare and inability to drive leaves KH on the sidelines for the moment. Sit tight and see if he can pull off a tuck-rule miracle.

Pats Camp

Gents, I've been down to the Camp a couple of times so far, the boys look focused
especially TB. I am concerned about the secondary as usual . I expect TB to play a little over a quarter against the Eagles. O'Donnell should se plenty of action, with Walters only playing very sparingly if at all . Keep the faith and as always use PROTECTION .

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME SHED!

SHED 26 PATRONS THE NFL SEASON IS ONCE AGAIN UPON US. BRADY IS BACK, THEREFORE THE SHED IS BACK! THURSDAY NIGHT 7:00 AT THE SHED 26 SPORTS COMPLEX AND FUNCTION HALL, THE DOORS WILL OPEN FOR THOSE LOOKING TO GET INTO THE ZONE. NFL, WHATS BETTER THAN THAT? THE ONLY THING YOU CAN ARGUE IS.... THE NFL+ THE SHED 26 . SO FELLA'S LETS KICK IT OFF IN STYLE. P-A-T-S PATS PATS PATS!

The correspondent is BACK!!

Good afternoon fight fans,

I wasn't sure what the general feeling was about tonight's UFC 101 event..Since we had a Shed Fight night a few weeks ago, I figured that this even, while a spectacular card, came a bit too soon to open up the shed doors again.

I'm always up for a last minute highway run, so let me know...If not, your friendly correspondent will be streaming the event through ufc.com then running the feed through the TV...just an insider secret...if you buy the web stream via ufc.com (not the yahoo feed), you also get to watch the un-aired under card fights for free plus you get a bonus, ring card girl cam throughout the event.....although you have to wait until the next morning to watch the un-aired fights. As for the ring card girls, tonight's event marks the debut of the maxim's UFC ring card girl contest winner Natasha (picture above) ....

As for the fights....BJ Penn vs Fenflo? and Anderson "the spider" Silva vs. Forest Griffin at 205lbs? Holy smokes...what a night...

BJ Penn Vs KenFlo: tough one here...two of my favorite fighters to watch...BJ has the edge in power and boxing and is the BJJ master but Kenflo is no BJJ slouch ...Kenflo has crazy Mui Tai Kicks and is a cardio freak...

No one taps, I can tell you that.. and normally my prediction would be that BJ would gas in the third round and Kenflo would win a decision....BUT...the word is that BJ is finally IN-SHAPE...he looked like it at today's weigh in....I guess he spent 2 months training with Mark Marenovich's father this time and an in-shape BJ Penn is too much for anyone in the world at 155, even KenFlo...

Kenflo takes down BJ
BJ sweeps to half guard..
BJgets his leg out and from side control take the mount pretty easily...
from there he'll do a lot of damage and the fight will be stopped... this is BJ's signature, unstoppable move, whenever he is the stronger fighter and is in-shape..

Check out BJ jumping out of a three foot deep pool...this video has everyone thinking that BJ is really in shape this time:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXoqfIU0C6Y

Forest vs the spider?

If forest is able to frustrate Silva with take downs and clinches, he may be able to survive a few rounds...but more likely...with Forests aggressive style and glass-Joe chin...this one could get ugly...the spider has something to prove after a few back-to-back lackluster performances...so he will be in full smash mode...I doubt this goes past a few minutes into the first round....forest will be eating punches and then will certainly go "night-night" via knees whilst in the inescapable Silva Mui Tai clinch...

Your friendly Shed Fight Night correspondent..

UFC

OK I THOUGHT WE HAD OUR OWN UFC CORESPONDENT, APPARENTLY, HE DOESN'T FEEL THE NEED TO CORRESPOND. THE SHED26 BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL TRY TO RECTIFY THIS UNFORTUNATE SITUATION. NOW I AM NOT THE ALL KNOWING ON THIS SUBJECT, BUT, I DO KNOW THAT KEN FLO VS BJ PENN IS THE MAIN EVENT THIS SATURDAY FOR IFC 101.

Get Well Soon, Kevin!

Sorry to hear about your injured ball, Kevin! I was half asleep at the fights the other night when I heard you had injured one! As most of the guys know, if anyone can relate and sympathize with you having an injured ball, I can! It's difficult to get comfortable and hard when you can't see straight, which definately affects your goals! I hope your ball heals quickly, there are no lingering problems, and you can see straight again! I know how embarassing it can be to have so many people look at your ball and poke and prod at it. It can be very uncomfortable, but, take the pain meds if you need them! It's actually kind of exciting with the pain numbed, kind of like scratching a good itch! I don't know how much good the goggles below will help, but, I'm sure Jason had his reasons. I would recommend a cup, myself. But, only after the swelling goes down!

Anyways, get well soon! Hope you'll be able to drive and walk straight soon and make it for the pre-season!

There are rumors of a photographer and some still photos to be shown . . . wait for it . . . on a billboard! LOL! Pats signing

The New England Patriots have struck a deal with veteran free agent inside linebacker Paris Lenon, according to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe.

Per the report, the transaction likely takes the Patriots out of the running for former St. Louis Rams starting linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa. Tinoisamoa has visited the Patriots, Chicago Bears and the Buffalo Bills.

“Paris is excited to finally be a part of a winning organization and eager to contribute in whatever way Coach [Bill] Belichick and his staff see fit,” agent Jon Persch told the Globe. “Now, quite simply he’s eager to go to work.”

Lenon, 31, recorded a career-high 121 tackles last season for the Detroit Lions, leading the 0-16 team in tackles.

He has a previous stint with the Green Bay Packers.

The Patriots were in need of some proven experience at inside linebacker after third-round pick Tyrone McKenzie suffered a season-ending knee injury at a rookie minicamp.

Shed Fight Night: As If You Needed A Reson

If, somehow, you needed a reason to venture out on a dark Saturday Night (tomorrow) and hit the Shed for UFC 97, here are just a few good ones:

1) Not only is this card loaded with some of the most entertaining and bad ass fighters on the planet, The headliner features the number one pound for pound fighter in the world in Anderson Silva. And the co-main event ....THE ICEMAN!!

2)Fight of the night prediction: Brian "All American" Stan, former US Marine who was awarded the Silver Star / former WEC light heavyweight Champ, takes on Krisztof "The Polish Experiment" Soszinski...the two will be swinging for the fences...Stan has lightning in his fists but not very good head movement...The Experiment is well rounded, a bit awkward and likes to mix it up...
3) I will be debuting my PHILLY CHEESE STEAK ROLLS!!!!!

Shed Fight Night Update- Schedule

Hello fight night fans..It's been I while since my last post, as the world of MMA has been a bit silent for a few weeks...but we've got some exciting fights coming up this month as well as a possible Shed Fight Night Event.

A few news items to report:

- Charles "Mask" Lewis, the founder of TapouT, and one of the most recognizable faces of MAA, died in a car crash a few weeks ago.

- The Tim "The Main-iac" Silvia (former UFC heavyweight Champ and former Main Resident ) vs. Ray Mercer MMA fight, was switched to a boxing match and then cancelled as the Nevada State Athletic Commission would not sanction the event....

- The BJ Penn/GSP Greasing saga continues as BJ's team formally submits an 18 page protest of the fight to the commission and several of GSP's past opponents report that he was "unnaturally slippery" when they fought as well (insert joke)...but then again, GSP did kick all their A$$'s, so take those comments with a grain of salt (or Peppers)

Upcoming Events:
Wednesday Arpil 1 UFC Fight Night...FREE event on Spike TV..

Only a few marketable names on this card, the headliner is the Carlos Condit/Martin Campman Fight...Condit, who held the WEC title until they eliminated the weight class, jumps into the deep end of the pool to test his skills against a dangerous kickboxer in Kampman...but Condit should win this fight as he is a beast...

Also on the card is A Shed Correspondent Favorite, and local guy, Jorge (hor-hey) Rivera...His fights are always exciting, great standup fighter.

UFC 97 Saturday April 18 Shed Fight Night?

The headliner on this card is Anderson "The Spider" Silva vs Thales Leites ...now, as we know Anderson Silva is arguably the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world.... some folks have Fedor as #1..but it's close...we may actually find out..as I've head rumblings of proposed super fights between the top three fighters in the world have been swirling (Silva vs GSP and Silva vs. Fedor)...the GSP/Silva fight is a lot more realistic as they are both under contract with the UFC, they only fight 15 pounds away from one another and a catch weight fight at 180 is workable...but Silva would be at a big disadvantage if he fought Fedor who fights at about 235...though I think Silva would still win... Silva also said this week, that he wants to fight Roy Jones in a Boxing match...!

Anyway..Thales Leitis has absolutely no shot to beat Anderson Silva...no matter how much they want to pump up Leitis to sell tickets..

I haven't even told you the best part about this card...The return of Shed Favorite Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell...after a tough 2008, The iceman starts his road back to the the title when he faces off against mauricio "shogun" Rua. Shogun is top 5 in the world at 205, but he has been unimpressive since joining the UFC and I think the Iceman is going to put him to sleep within the first minute.

That's it for now from your Friendly Shed Fight Night Correspondent...

Pat's Opener: 9/14 Monday NIGHT Game vs. Buffalo!!

That's right Pat's fans! Summer is almost over! The Red Sox are undefeated in the regular season, and it's almost time for the Pat's Opener! The Commisioner is supposed to announce today that the 50th Anniversary of the AFL and 40th Anniversary of Monday Night Football will be celebrated with the return of Tom Brady and a duel between arguably two of the best wide receivers in the game today: T.O. and Randy Moss. Of course, we all know who will win the game and the wide reveiver battle! But, we'll let them play to prove it! So, relax and enjoy what's left of the summer, because it's going to be a fast and furious start to the much anticipated opener!

Shed Fight Night Recap UFC 96

Even though your friendly fight night correspondent was unable to make the event, a nice crowd gathered on Saturday to watch UFC 96..

As promised by yours truly, we saw a nice group of exciting fights with the exception of a few duds. Here are some of the highlights:

Quinton Jackson Defeated Keith Jardine: Unanimous Decision

In a pretty good back and forth fight, Rampage grabs victory from the jaws of an either/way decision with a left hook with 10 seconds remaining, sending Jardine to the mat.

No real fireworks in this one, but both guys came to fight. The highlight of this fight may have been the pre-fight stare down..and then the trash talking between Rampage and Keith Jardine's best Friend and Light Heavyweight belt holder Rashad Evans.... These two are set to square off in May for the title. That is if Rampage accepts the fight on short notice. With Frank Mir's knee injury, the Brock Lestnar/Mir fight was pushed to July (UFC 100) and They need to push up Rashad's title defence to the May Show. Pencil in May and July for great shed fight nights...UFC 100 is set to be the biggest card of all time ( Let's not buy into this just yet ) ...with both the the heavyweight title and the welterweight title on the line ..G(rease)SP vs. Tiago "Pitbull" Alves also

Gabriel Gonzaga Knock out cold by Shane Carwin Shane Carwin

The Hype rolls on with Shane Carwin (the only fighter in the world who wears bigger gloves that Brock Lestner...4XL) getting rocked early, then dropping Gonzaga with a short right hand. Carwin actually works a full time job as an mechanical engineer and only trains part time, so the sky is the limit as he makes fighting his full time Career. This dude has to cut about 20 lbs to make the 265 heavyweight limit and may have the second best one-punch knock out power in the world... I'd still take Fedor any day.. Can't wait to see Lestner/Carwin...that is if Lestner can get by Mir...who looked unstoppable against Nogera a few months ago..

Matt Hamill Destroys Mark Munoz with a vicious head kick

This was, in my opinion, the fight of the night...with shed favorite Matt "the hammer" Hamill dominating Mark Munoz from the opening bell until he landed a crazy head kick that crumpled the former NCAA D1 Champ..

Good to see the Hammer continue to improve his game...he even out wrestled Munoz...but on the down side... Hamill still fights like the terminator...walking straight at his opponent with his hands down, chin up, and reaching for all his shots...the guys at the top of the 205 division will eat him up until he adds some D to his game. I would have thought that The Rich Franklin fight would have showed hamill that he needs to change it up a bit...but I didn't see anything different from him...well except for that crushing, lead-pipe shin to Munoz's Face! Hope that guy is ok..looked like Rogen and Goldberg were dancing the 2 step to distract us from the fact that they had a stretcher and EMTs called in.

The dud(s) of the night
1) The number one dud of the night was the Brandon Vera Mike Patt fight. As predicted, this was a gimme fight for Vera...who really needed a win to justify his spot in the UFC. They paid him a lot of money and he hasn't looked good at all since dropping from heavyweight. This was clearly a fight that was put together so Goldberg could ramble on about Vera's Mui Tai skills and the fact that he is now a dedicated fighter and "back"... I'm not buying what they're selling here. Patt looked 35 lbs overweight and out of his league...it felt like the intercontinental championship was on the line and Tito Santana was gonna run out from the dressing room at any moment. I was huge Vera Fan when he was fighting at heavyweight...although he can make the cut to 205, his skills seem to translate better at heavy...preying on bigger, slower guys.. The jury is still out on Vera butd I don't think they can just keep feeding him Mike Pratts for long before everyone else notices.

2) The Refs: Normally I think the refs do a pretty goob job in the UFC...but as the volume of shows increases, we see more new, inexperienced faces wearing the obligatory black polo and rubber gloves. A non televised fight with Shane Nelson was stopped way to early and the Matt Brown / Pete Sell fight was halted at one point when Sell was in deep trouble, then the ref let the action continue when he saw Sell was ok to continue? What the F? There are no standing eight counts in MMA...then the ref let the fight go on so long that Matt Brown felt bad having to smash Sell in the face any more.....Bring Back Big John McCarthy!! Let him clean this mess up.

3) Gray Maynard Vs. Jim Miller: I was somewhat proven wrong with this one with Gray Keeping the fight standing mostly, but he still fought for the W...not to finish...he had many opportunities to finish this fight, but instead opted to step out, circle, check the clock, throw a jab, step out, circle, check the clock... Gray could win 100 fights in a row, but won't make a main card until he's willing to risk it all and throw down.

That's it from your friendly Shed26 Fight Night correspondent....
